“Green Willie” is the 61st Los Angeles-class submarine, this class of submarines a total of 62, are authorized by Congress to produce. The Green Willie is the second Los Angeles-class submarine built at the Newport Shipyard. The submarine is equipped with a Tomahawk cruise missile system, giving it land attack capability. It is an improved version of the Los Angeles-class submarine with enhanced navigation and ice-breaking capabilities. The serial number is SSN-772. It started construction at the Newport Shipyard in the United States on February 28, 1992, launched in September 1994, and entered service in February 1996.
The boat has a standard displacement of 6,300 tons (with a large-caliber torpedo launch tube and a sonar system installed), an underwater displacement of 7,147 tons, a length of 108 meters, a draft of 9.9 meters, and an underwater speed of 32 knots.
